About the Urjala municipality

Urjala is over 150 years old municipality located in the Pirkanmaa region. Urjala is located along highway 9 between Tampere and Turku. The distance to Tampere is 60 kilometres and to Turku 105 kilometres. Other nearby towns are Akaa, Forssa, Loimaa, Huittinen and Sastamala.

The municipality has a population of 4568 (31 Dec 2023) and covers an area of 505.37 square kilometres of which 30.16 square kilometres is water. Our municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Taikayöntie (roads 230 and 232) is an enchanting travel route in the Finnish countryside and it runs through Urjala, Punkalaidun and Huittinen. There are beautiful nature and river landscapes as well as cultural environments along the route.

Private home plots

Urjala offers a diverse selection of plots for private home builders. Plots ready for municipal engineering can be found in the town center, e.g. from the areas of Ruokola, Peltorinne and Kolkka. There are also a few vacant plots in Huhti area.

Building houses/construction

In short the National building code of Finland is governed by the Land Use and Building Act (132/1999). It covers general conditions for building, technical requirements (such as strength, stability, fire safety, health and energy efficiency), building permits, and supervision by authorities. In Urjala the building permits are managed by building inspector and the building committee.

Rental apartments are managed by Urjalan Talot Oy, their vacant apartments can be found at Urjala vapaat asunnot (urjalantalot.fi).

Daycare and schooling

Urjala provides its residents early childhood education and care, preschool, basic education and general upper secondary education. Available are also many community college courses, you can check the course catalog at Valkeakosken opisto.
